R J Braverman received both a U.S. Patent and ATF classification for a non-NFA Pen Gun design in 1991 and licensed American Derringer to market the gun under the name Model 2 Pen Gun. The Model 2 was manufactured and assembled by Remcon North in Meredith, New Hampshire. In 1992 Braverman started R J Braverman Corp and continued to use Remcon North to manufacture and assemble the gun using the name Stinger Pen Gun.
The passage of the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act in 1993 caused a disruption in Braverman's ability to maintain high production and sales levels in 1994, and ultimately forced the company to cease operations in 1996
In 2002 Braverman licensed a Canadian company to manufacture the Stinger Pen Pistol in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan under the name Stinger Manufacturing. The company ceased operations in 2004, but not due to lack of sales, but politics.
R J Braverman LLC has filed a new Pen Gun Patent and is working with a well-known firearms manufacturer to reintroduce the Stinger Pen Gun with a conversion kit that will facilitate the transition from rimfire to centerfire and offering multiple barrel lengths and calibers.
